Am wondering when using a 15" rally wheel, is there that much of an improvement in ride/handling using stock size 60 series tires verse the 70 series tires? Wanting to keep the rally wheels.
Currently it (1980) has perfectly good 70 series radial tires on it. Am planning to install the VBP GranTouring Plus kit on it. Just not sure if the 60 series rubber is that much of an improvement? I realize going to a 17" or 18" rim offers better tire choices, but want to keep the 15" rally wheels.
Second question:
The VBP kit comes with a 3/4" rear sway bar, but they offer a 5/8" rear bar. After some reading on the boards, it seems like the smaller rear sway bar (5/8") is better? Several state the 3/4" bar breaks the rear of the car free too quickly?
The car will not be used on the track or any auto cross events. DD with some spirited driving from time to time.
I can't comment on the tires, but I have a 1-1/8 front bar and a 3/4 rear bar. IMHO, the rear bar is too big and it oversteers more than I would like. 5/8 should be a much better choice.
The 1980 Corvette was offered with 255R60-15 (Aramid) tires for a whopping $226.20. So, I guess GM thought it might be better to have 60 series tires on there for handling. The improvement is small (for the average driver with a non-racing suspension setup); but I think the C3 looks better with 60 series tires on it.
