I am in the process of cleaning and installing a new window regulator on my 1971 convertible with power windows - I have the everything out.
1. Question on the window there is a cap/bushing (on the right in the photo) - does this help with rattling issues when the window is down? My other window does not have one.
2. Is the roller in the picture suppose to be that lose like it is in the photo? I think it does - so that helps you maneuver when you are trying to get it out.
3. Also what is the best product to clean the rollers, bushings and track etc..
Hi Mark,
You're right about the 'pad' helping to stabilize the glass and reducing rattles.
The roller does have a a bit of 'pivot' to it.
I used Simple Green to clean the window parts and then re-lubed with white lithium grease as I reassembled it all.
Good Luck!

Alan

thanks for the input.. man that looks pretty.. and a lot of work there!!

I don't think it helps in the down position. If I remember right this cap wedges in the up position for stability.
Are you having rattling when the window is down ?

I am having rattling mainly when I shut the door with the window down..
There are down stops that might not be adjusted right and if the fuzzys at the top are not fuzzy and adjusted right it can cause the top of the window to rattle.
