I have built them for other vehicles, jeeps mainly. I have a 69 and was looking into doing my own as well. Do it and take pictures to post. I was also thinking of incorporating the amp, tweeters, subs etc. I have a convertible, so I was going to make a low profile one so it does not rub on the top when its down. A 70 convt I used to own had a regular sub box and it rubbed a bad spot on the clear vinyl window.
I have been away for awhile but a couple of years ago there was a guy named Durango boy that was pretty good at that kind of stuff.
Anyone know what happened to him?
As you probably know, a sub needs a box that provides a specific amount of space for the size of the sub to work properly. I wanted to keep the storage and jack area intact so, here's what I did to get the right air space for the sub and take up as little as possible in my 81.

Scott, I have a '71 vert. Making or buying something like this for convertibles is a PITA. Do you know what dimensions are you going to use yet? I have been looking at commercial options I saw at Ecklers - not sure if I'd want these:
also picked up a new battery.... do not get a gel optima battery if you do not plan on driving the vette that much....not worth the cost and once it's dead, it's toast...... i had 2 power caps that i used, but i might just beef up my alternator a bit and call it a day.....
i would just get a nice acid battery/beef up the alternator/ go to the car audio store and get the mini power batteries they have for larger setups....
