Do i have to take the dash apart to install an accelerator cable (my car is a '71)?
Here's my dilemma...
The cable has been back-ordered since November and all the vendors are telling me they won't see them until January. I have a basement full of interior parts and a week off from work and wanted to replace the cable while the interior was apart. I don't want to push the whole project into January because i'm not going to have time to do it...i'd rather use my time-off from work to get my interior done. On the flip-side, i don't want to do the interior now and then have to take it apart again when the accelerator cable comes in January. So back to my original question -- can i install the cable without taking the driver's side lower dash out?
Yes it can be done quite easily. No need to remove the dash. If you look up at where it comes through the firewall you can access this very easily and remove it from there. Should take maybe a half hour to do this.
Thanks Gordon. So then let the project begin!
Actually this will be my first time pulling the driver's side lower dash and I'm a little nervous about it. I redid the interior in my other vette last year and driver's lower dash was just about the only thing i didn't have to disturb. This time around I'm gong to have pull it because it's cracked and i have a replacement...so wish me luck
... the routing of the speedo cable and tach cable as well as the wiring harness directly behind the lower dash after you've loosened it but before disconnecting the cables and wiring. Might be worth a couple of pictures to remind you how it goes together. If any of those items is out of position, you risk breaking something! Not good.
