I just took my 68 vette to the shop for some routine maintenance stuff and the mechanic "strongly adviced" to have my rear suspension replaced because of extreme wear in my left rear trailing arm front bushing causing the parking cable to rub against the inner side wall of my rear tire. I did see a small scratch on the tire but he told me that he adjusted the parking cable so it is no longer scratching the tire. Anyway, long story short, he thinks I should get the rear suspension, drive shaft, and the univeral joints replaced. I am not against the idea since the suspension looks to be original but I just don't have a good feeling about what this guy is telling me and the price he is quoting me for this work. I guess I am interested to know what is a fair price to replace the rear suspension and if anyone has a recommendation for someone in the Northern Virginia area. Thanks!
Just like a Doctor, Get a second opinion. There is nothing in a bushing that would cause what he is saying. Really bad bearings could, but you would probably know that if they are that bad.

Replace drive shaft? Are you kidding.
Sure you heard everyting right?
I agree. However if you did see a wear pattern on the inside of the tire where the cable was rubbing, I would think that you may have a badly worn bearing and I would limit my driving till you know exactly what condition your trailing arms are in.
Thanks for the reply guys. I'll get a second and a third opinion. Anyone have a ball park figure what I am looking at to change out the rear suspension? I am just looking for some reference points on what others may have paid as I don't have a good idea on what is a fair price. Thanks.
You won't get a reasonable answer until you specify what you want to 'change'. A worn bushing is $10. if you do it yourself. Changing to a six link set up could set you back $5K.
I go to cooper corvettes there pretty good people there... one time I took my car to a quicky lube and for some reason after that my car wouldn't start and what do you know it was the starter it had gone out really ok so I ask how much and he says 400.00 next day went back with a tow truck and picked up my corvette up and went to cooper corvettes and they saved me 175.00 even with the tow truck cost it was still cheaper ask for tom he will take care of your car
