I have an obviously non-original Big Block in my car, I assumed it was a run-of-the-mill 454 out of some pick-up truck or something, until I looked at the block just above the oil filter boss. The block has HI PERF PASS 12 cast into it. Now I'm wondering, what is this thing?! The casting number for the block is 361959, and the serial Number is T0209TRU. Have I stumbled upon a 427?
Based on your casting that is a 1973-85 454 car or truck block, not a vette engine for more info go to the following link http://www.nastyz28.com/bbcmenu.html
The rear passenger side of the block behind the head will be a cast code. That is the production date code.Post it and will tell you day, month and year made

This from the Mortec site about the HI PERF: On big blocks, you may see the words "HIPERF", "HIPER", "TRUCK", "M.TRUCK", "PASS", "MAR" or "MARINE" cast into the block. You may see one or a combination of some of these words. First let me say that "HIPERF" or "HIPER" was used on ALL '65-'91 Mark IV big block blocks and is not an indication that it has four bolt main caps and was used in a high performance application. Two-bolt, low performance big blocks received the same "HIPERF" designation.
