Sorry for the highjack.
yes genuine GM J-56, the insulators are made from a phenolic plastic (I believe it`s called Pyroceram) it`s the "L" shaped GM double pin brake pads that had non magnetic Inconel backing plates. I still use the GM J-56 insulators but have moved on to a custom thickness brake pad.

But if he built it, he may have made it extra sturdy.

vette427-sbc : F-41 suspension? You mentioned the car was lowered.

My air dam is actually pretty thin fiberglass. Probably thinner than any production spoilers. Ive never "hit" anything with it. Just a fair share of scrapes on steep driveways and speed bumps.
I have a VB&P monoleaf kit up front. I had to modify the control arms a bit to get it to ride that low while still maintaining enough suspension travel.

A few of those spiolers have a small camera next to the picture. Click on that camera and it will take you to a picture of the spoiler on teh car. Most of them don't hang very low (may still be 6"+ clearance) so I don't think they will offer much aero advantage. May be a little bit better cooling, but not much.
