Getting ready to replace mufflers and pipes with Flowmaster Delta 50’s with 2 ½” pipes with H-pipe. Question to those of you who have Flowmasters, what configuration did you use, center inlet and outlet, offset inlet and outlet, center inlet offset outlet, etc., etc., etc.
What configuration allows the best fit and installation as to having them tucked up and out of the way?
Thanks
On my 82 I used offset inlet/ outlet. Be aware, they are tough to tuck up there, they are larger than stock mufflers!!
Offset outlet made mine look most like stock and the offset inlet fit my pipe configuration. :seeya
I went with offset in and center out for a little wider than stock look. I like the pipes a little farther apart. Stock is offset in and offset out so the tips are more toward the license plate.
The 50's are longer mufflers and will be a very tight fit, especially with the 2.5" pipe. That size pipe requires more of a bend which makes it harder to get a larger muffler in there. :smash: That is one of the reasons I went with the 40 series. I wanted to keep a smooth bend (FLOW) with the 2.5" pipe.
I had the 50's on my 1976. They were offset inlet and offset outlet. They were also a tight fit. However, I took them off of the car because they were so loud that they rattled the whole car and you could hear rattling when you accelerated. They sounded real good until I took the catalytic converter off. However, since you probably don't have a catalytic converter since its a '74, it will be very loud. I replaced mine with the chambered undercar exhaust from MidAmerica and I love it. Good Luck.
