I found this piece lying on the floor this morning. What would be the best way to fix this? It was a clean break and the two pieces fit together pretty well.
Had the same thing happen to my 71'. I just glued it back on with epoxy. It looks OK, but you can still see the joint (I didn't try to touch it up with paint) but it's still on after 4 years. You'll need to fix what caused it to break in the first place. I think on mine it was part of the convertible top window seal stuff.
Hi,
I agree with Gary.
The break looks like it left you with a good bit of surface for the epoxy to hold on to.
So, you're actually lucky!
Regards,
Alan
Also, you did not say how it happened, if it is hitting something on the body or something, be sure to fix the problem, before you make your repair, so it doesn't happen again.
repairing the break isn't the problem. as duke94 said, fixing the problem is your biggest worry. with the folding top raised, the top's frame has a vertical piece right over where this fracture happened. it's where the weatherstriping is attached. somehow the top has settled, and this vertical piece strikes the door. you'll have to either loosen the two bolts that attach that side of the top and raise it(which will effect how the top fits) or thin the fiberglass piece for clearance, or just leave that small broken piece off. i went thru this on mine, but i was replacing the canvas, so i just realigned the top.
