I want a lift, not to be used for storage at all, just to work on the car which is getting a frame off. My garage is only 8'3" tall. I was all set to buy one this weekend until I measured the ceiling. I wouldn't be totally against putting one outside as my drive has a spot that I could use but I heard you need one made for outside and the drive has a slight slant to it sideways for water runoff. I don't think that I could get a 2 post to set up there because of that.
I saw the Maxjax and have thought about ordering it. Hard to find anything actually showing someone under it working. I saw one of their videos that shows someone on their stool and thought that it was almost tall enough if I just got some extensions that I heard about. A close look at the video showed that they had snuck the extensions into the shot to show it with more lift (just didn't bother to mention it to the viewer). The guy still seemed to have to duck moving around under there.
I am 95% set to just forget about the lift and stick with jack stands. Anyone here use the maxjax and how much room do you really get under there? I'm buying a lift to make my work easier and less staining on the old body. Some pics of the lift in use, using the stool would be helpful.

Hey Milo
I've been following three threads on the MaxJax, the first of which got started on the C6 forum. I've included the links below and you can catch up.
I'm currently installing my MaxJax and my ceiling is 8'2" in a two-car garage with a cinder block wall breaking it in half and did the work to accommodate both a C3 and C5. I have been thru the research and study for the last several years. Thought about blowing out the top to install a two post but could never reconcile all that effort for a 9,000 lb lift capacity. Corvettes weight between 3200 and 3500 and Jeep is about 4,000.
So the MaxJax fit the bill and after following the C6 thread, decided to pull the trigger on one. Here are the links including group buy information on the C3 forum.
I've been researching those threads and some others and still no one seeems to post a picture of someone under the car working. The lift just doesn't appear to be high enough to get under it comfortably. I wish someone would show me something otherwise because I'd love to have one. I guess I'll wait and see what info the buyers will give out.
If I get any good info then I'll order one. FYI if you can't get into their deal now, you can get it from Garage Equipment Supply for that same price.
Photos of my installation. First vehicle up was my latest project truck.
Weight is 5300#. I am 6 feet tall and have no problem rolling under.
Notice the "truck" spacers on the end of the arms. My ceiling is 10 feet and I have only a few inches of clearence in the full up position.
The floor is about 5 inches thick and is two years old. It would be nice if the hydraulic lines were a little longer. I used 120 inch spacing and have no problem in and out of the C-3 but the truck is a tight squeeze.
Still haven't got all the hydraulic leaks stopped.
Yours truly sitting under the truck with Michelob Bubba lube in hand and buddy/neighbor Jeff standing by.
I think this will be the best tool in my shop.
Ya'll Enjoy !

This really looks like a fantastic lift. Have a quick saftey question. I see a bar is slid through the post at the desired height. Are there any other saftey features on this that would prevent the unit from fully dropping while its being raised, perhaps if a seal blows or a ruptured hose? Thank you.

With the safety bars in place they are bearing the entire load on the lift with little if any on the hydraulics. Biggest risk of a hydraulic failure would be during lifting or lowering and no one will be under it at that time. Just my opinion, I'm no expert. It still makes me a little nervous sitting under two and a half tons of truck

Good practice is to just get the wheels off the ground and then shake the car before raising further.
Have see several slide off a lift, but not lift failure.
