Any comments on switching a stock a/c compressor over to the new freon. Overheating problems? Any issues to be carefull of?
Car is a stock 350 plain jane automatic
R134a well not be as cool as R12 for one reason, it simply needs another kind of condenser (parallel flow), I have a VERY hot climate in summer and use R134a and it freezes the h*** out of me! .. use a prallel flow condenser and R134a will be just as good.
I've got a '71 with the stock A/C, but which doesn't work.
Given the cost of a recharge with R12, and the (likely) potential cost of replacing/repairing components to get it back to fully-operational condition should a simple recharge leak out and need to be recharged again, my plan is to bite the bullet and install an entire updated R-134a-based system.
If mine still worked, however, I would NOT think about changing it over.
