Default Fuel pump fitting size??

I have read every thread on this and have seen two answers. I am wanting to know what the fitting size is on a stock fuel pump for an 81. The one that goes directly into the pump not the female on the end of the elbow. I think the size is 1/4 inch NPT and the other end of the elbow is 3/8 inverted flare. That is where I ran into a problem installing my new braided lines with 6AN fittings. I have a 3/8 NPT instead of a 3/8 flare male fitting. I think my only and best option is a 1/4 NPT male to 3/8 NPT female elbow. IF the fitting going into the pump itself is a 1/4 NPT thread.(I have read where it says it is 3/8 as well thus the confusion) ???? My 2 hours of looking on the internet at fitting s is driving me nuts!
