I am more than likely going to change out my 3.08 for a set of 4.11 and I am going to try to do this my self don't think I am a fool just yet this is on a spare Diff that I took out of my parts car.
The local shops want an undifined amount to do this for me this = lots of cash.
So I thought that I would take a stab at it after all I built my engine and it runs.
So if any one knows of informitive web sites or has any tips at all please post them your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
If you need a 4 series carrier I have one for sale. I bought it because I had 4.11 gears on a 3 series carrier with a spacer. I was going to change it out and a week after I got the carrier I was racing and blew the 4.11 gears and the 3 series carrier up. I never got to use the 4 series carrier. I had a 3.70 rear that was rebuilt and put that in the car. Gary has the right idea about setting up the gears. make sure the pattern and backlash is correct and you should be OK.
That is a big jump from 3.08 to 4.11, make sure you want that low a gear. I have a 3.70 with low profile tires which gives me about a 4.11 rpm range. I don't like to take it on the highway because I have to run about 3500 rpm's to keep up with traffic. I am thinking about a 700r4 for the overdrive gear and low first gear.
I am aware that it will rev like a sewing machine on the highway. But for the most part I say pretty local and there are lots of twisty 50mph highways around here. I also am going to keep the other set of 3.08's around incase I make a trip to well any where considering it is only a 3 Hr job once it has been done before and every thing is loose.
Thats the plan any way but i sure can't wait to feel the difference it will make.
:D :D :D

Funny you should mention that
The gear set is complete with spacer and bolts so as I under stand it I should be able to use a series 3
I did that wit ha spacer and blew it up. If you don't plan on to many 1/4 mile passes you should be OK. I got about 75 passes and about 4000 miles before mine decided to shear off the bolts on the ring gear. They were grade 8 bolts but it sheared everyone of them off. I was warned about this but I tried anyway. Good luck with it.
Well I will give it a try
I won't be using it at the track just torquing around town.
If it does blow I a can just reinstall the 3.08's so it won't be like the car will be off the road for long.
One more question
What speedo gear should I use in my th350 with 235-60-15 to get an accurate reading with the 4.11's
Thanks
