I'm working on a friends 78 pace car. He has a new Die Hard battery that was put in a month ago. When the car sits for a couple of days, you have to jump it to get it started. I've checked the output of the altenator and it's charging the battery just fine. I don't hear anything running after the car is off, and I don't see any lights still on. Any clues on what is draining this battery?????
Check your ground on the engine block for excessive resistance. You can check how much current is pulling from the battery by hooking an ammeter in series to the positve lead of the batt. Do this with everything turned off and try to use as large of gauge wire you can. This will allow you do isolate the load that is draining your battery. Good luck! I'm sure others out there have even better suggestion.

Do this then start pulling fuses one by one until you find it. Check the glove box light, also disconnect the alternator. The key is to do only one thing at a time while looking.

, tho my battery drain mysteriously disappeared  I know it will be back when I least expect it :nonod:
Hey guys, Thank you for the help with some ideals. You might have found the problem, I can't find a ground strap or cable from the block to the frame.
The Neg. cable is attached to the frame under the battery box. Now my question is where should the cable be on the block??? Also this car seems under powered, is this normal for a 78 ?
My block ground cable is under the bolt that is used for the starter support. From there it goes to frame, if I remember right maybe 12-16 inches long hvy gauge cable(battery cable size).
Underpowered, yes a good tuneup might get you some more Hp. I'm not sure if the pace cars were an L-48 or L-82 engine. Either way 185 or 220 Hp
