Default hidden vin number

I need to locate the hidden vin number on a 1977 Vette. Any clues as to where I should look?

The hidden one? You mean like on the frame? BTW, JB is MY user name, darn it! :D

If no one here helps you out, you may get some help at your local law enforcement agency. The guys that handle auto theft and VIN switches know where to look. They probably won't tell you, but if you dirve the car down there and ask nicely, they may spend a few minutes alone with your car and read you the VIN. You'll have the most luck if you tell them you think the car had a VIN swap done before you bought it-- they'll take a look to make sure as part of their "investigation". How is Kinston these days? I haven't been there since I came up for a few Indians games from Camp Lejeune.

Don't know about "hidden" VIN, but I believe this is true for all sharks. Look with a mirror on the top of the frame....drivers side rear...on the flat part of the frame behind the rear wheel (outside of the muffler). You'll need steel wool, soap, etc. to clean the area. Would not get law enforcement involved in this at this point, as you could be opening a can of worms for yourself IF you have a VIN problem. Don't ask this question of the police unless you already know the answer. :) Hope this helps. Chuck

Try looking on top of the driver side frame almost directly under the driver seat location. Use some steel wool or something to clean the rust, then take some chaulk and rub it along the frame and wipe off the excess. Using a mirror you should be able to see it.
I did this on a 62. Took awhile but I found it. I even used some paint thinner as cleaner but it is there.

I just put a 79 Frame under the 76 and it was stamped on the top of the hump. Think about it The factory worker didn't have to bend over very much to put it there. The donut fat policeman only has to reach above the wheel with his mirror. :D It was on the frame on the top flat in wheel well opening left rear wheel.:)
