Default 1980 Rear Differential

Hey guys. First post on here. I have a 1980 L-82 and I'm wanting to upgrade the rear differential (it has the aluminum Dana 44 IRS) and u-joints so that I could build up a higher horsepower engine and flog it with more peace of mind than I can now. Eventually I'd like to do a LS-3 / t-56 swap and so I'd like a stronger diff to stand up to it. I've been looking into putting a C5 or C6 rear differential in the car but this would require a lot of fabrication work, and a welder I'm not. My other idea is to put the earlier iron differential from a 1968-1979 into the car. I understand that I would still have to have the old style crossmember welded in, but I think that this would require less surgery to my car. Does anybody have any information on this or have any thoughts of ways I could do this? Thanks.

Thanks much! I think I'll go with the iron diff to the batwing mount. I like the way that sets up.
