Default New 72 owner needs some info

I need the emissions diagrams for a 72 200 horse auto car with a/c. I bought a 72 vert last weekend and I am now in the fix things right mode. Pretty nice car but I should have looked at the car harder than I did when I made the offer.

If you don't already have it, get the NCRS AIM and, while you're at it, get the electrical diagrams too for your '72. It will be money well spent.

And the '72 doesn't really have much in the way of emissions control (TCS solenoid, AIR pump, PCV, coupla' other minor bits and pieces)...

Hi jm,
72 NICE!
The 72 base engine cars didn't have any of the AIR equipment that some of the other engines had unless it was a car delivered to California.
All 72 cars have an ECS (Evaporative Control System) which controls gas tank vapors, a PVC (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) which controls crankcase vapors, TCS (Transmission Controlled Spark) system, and an Anti-diesel Solenoid.
I hope this is enough info to get you started.
Regards,
Alan

PS: The 72 AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual) from G.M. (not the NCRS), and the G.M. 72 CHASSIS SERVICE MANUAL will both be a BIG help to you as you get to know your car. Both these are available from many of the larger venders and are well worth their cost.

thanks gents. I will purchase the assembly manual. It appears that the tcs has been disabled. What I am looking for is the lines from the evaporator canister to the pcv and the carb. The car I have has been changed up and I would like to get it back to original. Thanks again.

Hi jm,
Here are some pictures of the connections at the canister and the hose connections at my 71 q-jet which should be the same as your 72 q-jet.
I hope they help.
Regards,
Alan

TOP (1 from tank, 2 to carb)(1 directly to carb, and 1 to PVC and then to carb.)

BOTTOM (drain hose)

Alans pictures show perfectly how to hook up the lines to the vapor canister, as they are the same 71->72.

But don't get confused by the solenoid on the carb, that is an excellent example of the one year only CEC (Combined Emission Control) solenoid. It combines the TCS solenoid, that controls vacuum advance, with the idle stop solenoid on the carb. So your 72 will have a TCS solenoid on the rear passenger side of the carb. And a idle stop solenoid with a single electrical connection on the drivers side of the carb.
