I agree with you about the zz4 engine. I am only stating the horsepower that I believe that I can attain with my top end package. The horsepower numbers should be the same for this package weather it is installed on a zz4 shortblock or the 350/290 shortblock. Of course the zz4 is a race ready/capable engine and has endurance capibilities far beyond the 350/290. I.m looking for the most bang for the buck and like I said, I won't be running the engine at high rpm's or abusing it.

Hindsite is always better than foresite although it wasn't my intention to go this route. I bought the top end package to simply bolt on to my L48. I then decided that I should do rings and bearing before installing my package . The machine service and shortblock build is about the same price as the brand new GM 350/290 shortblock, then I discovered this unit has the -12cc dished pistons that I don't want. That was what the original post was about. It doesn't seem that anyone has the answer to my question so I will research the subject with the chevy dealer this week to see what is actually available from them. Thanks for the good info on the zz4 which I might wind up with.

If you want the zz4 all you have to do is have a list of what you'll need & call summit racing Tech line, they are in business to sell you parts, they already know exactly what you need for the zz4 short block& probably sell it in a kit.

Which heads do you have? Whack them and use a .015" fel Pro head gasket.

If you just got to have new, and you like the price and all on the 290hp but just want/need flat tops, then just buy them, they are cheap at this leavel of performance, but then you have no warrinty at all then if that matters to you. Cost would be under 150 bucks.
