Thats what I ended up doing Terry - I connected the two wires that were broke and taped them up real good and connected the other 4 inside the connector. While I'm waiting on the control arms at the shop - I am going to replace the rear control arm rubbers- their squished out the sides of the arms.....
Bushings came in for the rear end rods so it's time to clean them up and stick them back in. As long as I had them off might as well polish and paint. I believe that for every hour you spend turning a wrench there is another 3-5 hours of cleaning, moving, scraping and small tinkering. This project would already be done if I was to just pull the bad part and slap in a new one.... but what fun would that be -
I like to take my time and look behind parts, clean up everything, even the bolt - they go back in easier.
Well - the old radiator gave up the ghost when I tried to take the drain plug out - it ripped the metal - very thin metal - around the plug.
So - the new twin fan DeWitts came in and it is a beauty....
After a little modification..... when isn't there a little modification.... the unit is in and I'm currently wiring it up. I have it working but I am looking for a place under the hood to connect the green wires...the ones that are suppose to go to the IGN switch.... any suggestions from the forum???
The last bit of hardware for the CE - a complete exhaust system - going from 2" to a 2 1/2" system..... sounds very nice. Should be on the ground soon.
Everything back together, tightened up and ready to roll. First trip around the block was a success..... if you dont count the leaking steering box. A couple of minor tweaks here and there and it will be ready for the paint shop next...... but for now it's back up on the blocks to get the gearbox rebuilt. Sooooooo close.
Wow, awesome job! I'm getting ready to do much of this work on my highly neglected '79. My biggest challenge to start is the gas tank. How in the heck did you drain and drop the tank in your garage? How do you get the gas out? I'm pretty sure I'm looking at a 3/4 full tank of 9+ year old gas.

I used a good old garden hose - but the pump may leave you with better smelling breath. The tank will drop out - literally - once you get all of the attached hardware off including the exhaust. Get the car about a foot into the air - note the post earlier about the 3 armed spider monkey, but for now, use you knees.
