Default 69 350/350 Alternator

Question, When I first bought my 69 it was obvious that the alternator had been replaced. The wires had been cut and the red and black wire plug in added, a couple days later I noticed that the black wire coming from the alternator and a brown wire with a white stripe had come apart, so i put it back together, car has been running fine no problems. Friday Wife and I went to a neighbors Funeral on the way back home I stepped on it in third gear and it fell on its face. I have the vacuum at the manifold plugged off, I'm working on the wiper door. Today i went to finish working on the wiper door and the battery was dead so I disconnected the battery, to charge it. while looking at the alternator the brown wire with white stripe was melted slightly and the big red wire from the battery on the back of the alternator , I just touched it and it fell off, so my fell on its face is now explainable passably. Now tracing the brown wire with the white stripe goes to the tee taped separation wire loom on the left fender there it goes toward the front of the car, going to break out the manual to find out what that wire goes to, any ideas where that wire goes, brown with white striped coming from the black wire on alternator, all electrical has worked up until now don't want to put back together until i find out why, sorry for long post. Thanks all

I'm looking at my 1970 wire diagram. The B/W leaves the alt and goes to the firewall connection. Then under the dash it changes to a solid brown wire and up to the ign. sw. Before the ign. sw. there is a splice that has a brown wire also that goes to the radio capacitor and back to the fuse box. Do you have a diagram? Do your lights, inst lights, door warning lights work?

Default 69 Alternator

The brown white stripe wire in my 69 goes from the alternator black wire towards the front of the car and it is a one piece solid wire, after further investigation i have discovered when putting my kick panel back on the drivers side the screw that holds the courtesy light went into a loom of 4 to5 wires and through one of them. This must have something to do with it, Ill investigate it more later, and yes my gas gauge was indicating less than quarter and it has a half tank, and my temp gauge is half of what it should be,so here we go lol, wish me luck now that the screw is out that one wire is all it did, Ill look further down the loom and see if that wire comes back to the ignition, Ill see if i can get the diagram thanks for the info all, THANKS
