I just received two original door panels for my 71 coupe. There are no cutouts for the door handles. What is the best way to measure and cut out for my door window handles? Thanks!
Hi d v,
The reproduction trim panels I've seen have a pretty distinct indendation where you make a cut for the winder.
Have you looked carefully on the back side of the panel?
Regards,
Alan
Hi dv,
WOW!!!
I think I'm pretty envious. I've been looking for a driver's side panel for years
Standard or delux and what color? ( Just so I know HOW bad to feel.)
Check on ebay, someone in Wisconsin has some has some listed under "Corvette Door Pannels". These look nice, pricing was at 125 plus shipping for one. They are listed as saddle, but I believe it is the dark saddle of 1971 to 1972 vintage.
About the best way to get the hole in the proper place is to put some lipstick on the window crank shaft! Yes, you read correctly... Then put the door panel on the car and in the position it should be in and because the power window panel is without a hole, you'll hit the shaft with the panel when you try to install it. This will give you a great starting point on the back side of the panel.
Once you do this, make a small cut through the panel about the exact size of the crank shaft. Then put the panel back on the car and push the crank shaft through the hole.
If you do it this way, you'll have the smallest hole possible and be able to trim around the shaft for some clearance. It will also allow you to make some adjustments should you mark or cut the panel in the wrong place.
Thanks Willcox, as always you know the right way to McGuiver something! Thats why I have ordered parts from you in the past and why you will be getting a call from me in the next couple of weeks! THANKS!
Hi DV,
I looked under Corvette Door Panels but didn't see any listed from Wisconsin.
I need a driver's side, standard, black.
I'll keep looking.
Thanks for the lead.

Alan
