Default Accelerator Cable Install

Can someone walk me through installing an accelerator cable in my '71?

I see where the accelerator cable connects to the gas pedal arm. I also see the bolt that mounts the cable bracket to the firewall. It looks like it will be tough to get that bolt off because the arm is in the way, so i'm thinking i should remove the two lower accelerator pedal bolts?

Also the cable has a small ball at the end which obviously is needed for the pedal and cable to operate correctly. Another question I have is how do i detach the old cable and attach the new cable to the accelerator pedal arm? Obviously don't want to cut that head off but don't know how i would otherwise feed it through the hole because of the head.

Thanks,
Paul

Click on supporting docs. The ball end has a tiny piece with a slot in it,its a little puzzle.

Hi Paul,
I think it's easier to change the cable with the pedal out of the car so yes, you do need to loosen the 2 pedal rod bolts and clamp to get the pedal out.
Regards,
Alan

Remove the gas pedal arm, then remove the retaining washer that holds the "ball". Then you must remove the bolt that mounts the cable to the firewall...patience helps....it's even more frustrating to re-install. (I'm going from memory, did mine some years ago).

Sorry to hi-jack the thread guys - but does anyone know a suitable 'billet' style bolt-in aftermarket replacement - just to get that little bit of additional cable movement ?

Most people use Lokar aftermarket cables (I'm using one). Plenty of adjustability. Check Summit or Jeg's.
