Default C3 dual mount rear spring questions

I'm all for better handling and all, but at my age I'm building my 81 for daily driver street use and longer road trips and don't want to end up with a buckboard or race-car ride, either.

And - the VBP site doesn't specify if their dual mount system for an 81 also works with their 6 link. That 6 link would be a priority for me over a dual mount if push came to shove.

Just looking at it in comparison to the standard mounting system, it would seem that with less spring length to work with it the spring would have less opportunity / length to flex, or have to flex more within the shorter length to equal the ride of a standard mount system.

Make any sense?

Along the same vein, I really like what I read about front mono-leaf setups, but (1) don't want to lower the car any - I know it says it's adjustable, but the write-ups also say it lowers the car 1", and (2) I have the same question concerning ride quality -

Thanks!!

I have both the front and rear mono leaf systems on my car. Both of them are fully adjustable and you can set whatever ride height you want. You can also set whatever spring rate you want. I had them send me a stiffer rear spring as the first one even on the stiffest setting was to soft. I talked to them and they swapped it out for me. Mine is on a 72 and I did run the 6 link setup with the dual mount spring. It will be a little different for your setup but should work. I have since removed the 6 link and am just running front and rear mono systems with the dual mount in the rear.

The Smart Struts kit worked out well for my install....even used the strut bracket as o mount for the Dual Exhaust Tubes to Polished 3 " S/S Stinger-Style Mufflers...

The System is 4 corner adjustable... with 3 different spring settings ,and also ride height... that you can use...to suit the Driving needs. I also install a set of Air Shocks on the rear for a enhanced adjustablity on Ride Height ("77 15" Baja Runabout boat trailer hitch).

A disavantage on the monospring on the softer setting is she can Squat on Heavy Acceleration Starts (automatic transmission / brake) The Rice A Roni Drivers...usually do not try to finish something ... when they see her squat down like... a cat...getting ready for a ambush jump...start.

I think we are kinda going around the world here. The 6 Link set up is ment to keep the Tires flat on Hard Acceleration and is intended for the Drag Strip. The Dual Mount Spring is ajustable so You can make Track Changes at the Auto Cross or Road Race event. But what You want is a Soft Ride car to go Grand Touring in. If you look You will find GT Suspension kits. What they are are Soft Springs with Stiff Sway Bars. If all You want is a soft ride You pretty much have it with you 81's stock rear Plastic Spring. However You might notice an improvement up front going to the Plastic Dual Mount. Out back there will be less ride improvement but a Dual Mount won't hurt the Ride any. Keep in mind the Spring still flex's in between the mounts, so all the Spring is still used. Dosn't sound like you would end up with a large Exhaust anyway, but if you do the Dual Mount takes away ground clearance were they pass on 80-82's, leaving less room to lower the Car. Stock Height and 2 1/2" Exhaust won't be a problem.
