You should be able to lift the head off without removing the exhaust manifold. It may take two people to install after so You dont mess up the gaskets. I have done it a few times on different types of motors. Just remember to remove the exhaust bolts and remove the spark plugs. Any other bolt or part that could get in the way. Also your coolant needs to be dropped at least 50%.
