Default Wiper problem

Guys, could use some help with the wipers on my '71.

The wipers operate just fine as does the vaccuum powered wiper door, but the problem is when i turn the wipers off the wiper door closes down on the wiper arms before they have a chance to go back down. I'm recently redid the interior and not sure if i screwed something up. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Paul

The wiper arm when in the down position, rest on vacuum relay under it on the passenger side. This cuts the flow of vacuum to the wiper door relay and lets the door close. It's job is to prevent the door from closing on the wiper arms. I'd have to guess this part first.. this should not be a hard one to nail down for sure!

You'll see it at the bottom of this page.. http://willcoxcorvette.com/repairand...lp.php?hID=218

I also have vacuum schematics that will help you at this link!

Hi Paul,
I think Willcox is right.
It's just possible that the relay's position needs to be adjusted. It may be signaling that the wipers are in the 'park' position, and the door can close, too soon.
I think that means the relay needs to be slid closer to the floor of the wiper well so the arm goes further down before the signal is sent,
It will be nice if it's that simple!
Regards,
Alan

Thanks guys. The relay seems to always stay in the "pressed in" position...even when the wipers are going, this one doesn't pop back out so i think i need a new relay. Looks like yet another order with wilcox is in my future

If the relay is stuck down this would explain why the door does this for sure..

Good deal, glad you figured it out.
