tested alternator, help please
ON my 69/350 alternator the red and black wire plug in, the black wire goes to a brown with white stripe single thread wire to the firewall, according to the 69 wiring diagram the brown white stripe wire goes to the radio capacitor and also to the ignition switch. Can anyone tell me if this wire should be hot, tested my alternator and it failed all test at napa so I'm thinking this is why the brown and white striped wire burned up, but it only burnt to the firewall and not inside. This is my third post today about this problem and no replies, do I smell or something, Thanks for any possible help, I Know you electrical geniuses are out there help help help.

Brown wire goes to ignition switch, powered when key is on, red is constant hot,black is ground. Check for continuity between the brown wire and ground, alt disconnected, key off,if ok, your short is probably in the alt itself, keep the old alt if it is original to the vehicle, check date codes.
