Default Tip for gasket replacement

I just replaced my valve cover gaskets. I put a bead of 600RTV to hold the gasket but didn't trust that it would not move around while trying to work it into place. Suppose I could have waited for it to dry but I have zero patience. I took some fishing line and tied knots through the cover and gasket holding the gasket in place. Got the cover in place I snipped and removed the line and inserted bolt. Just thought I'd share..

That's one neat trick for the garage book on how to. As another idea try the 3M weatherstrip adhesive on the rocker cover side and use it as a contact cement. Once set it does not move!

The guy at the autoparts place where I found the Felpro 7/32 gaskets said the same thing. He didn't like the RTV cause it move around.. I already had 3m weatherstrip adhesive at home but wasn't sure if the engine heat would have any effect. I sort of liked the idea of using RTV 600 (high heat) to fill in any gaps. Remember, Bubba told me these cars have lots of problems with valve cover leaks so I wanted to cover as many bases as I could.. I put it in while it was still curing and having the fishing line hold it in place worked great..

I sealed mine to the covers and dropped bolts in them will upside down to hold them in position and let it dry overnight. Now I can take my covers off and the gaskets stays put, work on the rockers then put the covers back on. I have had no problems with leaks yet.
