I am installing a Vintage Air Gen IV sure fit system in a 74 vette and was wondering if anyone has any experience with installing the ducts on it. Does the drivers side duct for the ac go above or below the steering column? I have tried both ways and have issues either way!! If I install above the column the clutch hit the duct and if below my foot hits it. Help and suggestions please.
When mine was installed they custom made a 3" or 4" round PVC pipe to "oval shape" heating it up that would fit in there leaving the very ends of the pipe still around and then reconnect the hoses as needed. It was too tight in there for my 69 vette also to use the round hose.
Thanks guys, I did get it above the instrument cluster and really had to force it to get the screws in the dash. Now I just hope that I can get the center bezel in!!!! There doesn't appear to be much room left and I still haven't got the center duct in. It would make sense for them to manufacture some hard ducts flattened and shaped to fit those tight places like they did for the passenger side. Also their directions give no clue where they expect you to run them. Thanks again.
There all a pain in the butt.the duct work is the worst part of the kit.the center duct is even worse.I put an original center vent in mine .that crappy junk that comes with the kit dosent look that good.one vent where two originally came.
You are so right!! The ducts are the biggest pain and I am beginning to think impossible. When I get everything connected there is no room to connect the center air duct because I had to route the drivers side duct over the speedo and tach panel. Am I going about this wrong? I try to get the dash panels in first and then the console and then the center bezel last. I dont see how to get the center bezel in first. What order do you install all the components? I tried to call them and keep getting a recording to leave name and number so they can call me back. I can't sit aroud a phone all day waiting and I don't have a cell phone.
When I called an left a message the called me back in about 10 min.I bought the center vent adapter they sell for a car that came with air.I took that and the adapter that came in my kit and cut them up and fiberglassed them together.I put the gauge panel in first.then I installed the radio and then the console.you just have to play with hoses till find a position that works.be careful with the oil press line.If you are not careful you can crack it.I went ahead and put a new on it while I had it apart. Its a real pain and it took me a while to get the dash to fit back together.check your dash lights before you get to far along and make sure they work before you button it up.
OK, I finally got the drivers side duct behind the speedo and tach and did away with the small 2 inch hose that went to the right side of the drivers dash. I also switched the drivers side duct and the center instrument cluster on the evaporator and it looks as if this will work. That big 3 way connector is the biggest pain to get to fit. Hopefully this will help someone else that attempts this. I will update when finished.
Finished the project a couple of weeks ago but had surgery soon after. I got everything back together and works great! The ducts are the biggest pain as mentioned before. I ran it in my garage with the tops on and windows up and the temp at the ducts got to 33 degrees according to my thermometer!!! Of course it was only about 55 degrees in my garage. Took it for a ride but temp was only in the 50's so I basically ran low heat. I noticed that the dynamat did wonders for the interior sound even though I have only installed in the front compartment, I'll have to wait for summer to see how well it does to lower cabin hear from the engine and exhaust system. I didn't have defrost before because nothing worked but now it will blow your hair dry!!!! Great system compared to OEM.
