Default Heater core/fan replacement.

1981 Vette, with AC.
I re-doing my complete interior/new audio system/replacing all vacuum lines from HAVAC control.
I already removed carpet, seats, gauges, center console whole dash and etc.
Since all this stuff its out I decided to replace my heater core, and upgrade the fan assembly to C4 unit. Can I just remove the inner box (inside the car) and do it or I have to also remove the part that's in engine bay?
Thanks.

heater core = inner box inside the car. Fan = outer box in the engine bay and witht he C4 fan you have to make a spacer of which I am sure you already know about.

I used the fan and spacer from Corvettes of Houston. It was a good spacer. I recommend upgrading the fan and using a spacer (3/4").

Sorry, jcloving, I just looked at that site, cause I'm doing mine this weekend....$149.99 for the fan, motor and spacer!?!?! I'm in the wrong business. The fan is about $20.00 new, anywhere and the fan is about $20 too. I don't think you can justify charging $100 for a 3/4" spacer that doesn't even look like it's drilled...

I got complete brand new C4 fan assembly (fan + blower motor) for $28. And I will make the spacer myself (wood).

damoroso, scyzork23, true $150 is a lot for a fan and spacer so I hit them up and they drilled the holes and kicked in the screws. I should have made them kick in gaskets too.

It saved me the time and hassle of making my own spacer and for me it was worth it...almost.

I've heard some other forum users complain about the time to fabricate their own spacers....to each their own.

Here's a link to a really good reference on heater core removal from our newer C3s with A/C. Excellent images.
