Header Gaskets
Helo all. Have a question about header gaskets. I have Edelbrok RPM straight plug heads and I have an exhaust leak. I have painted (black) Dynomax headers. My question is do I match the gasket to the cylinder head ports or to the header holes?

Well I always try to match them both if possible..at least cut them out for the exhaust ports..if not the gasket can burn out faster..hopefully the headers have a thick flange lessens the chance of a leak..what gasket are you using?

I do not recall. I installed these 5 years ago (come March) I think they were Mr Gasket header gaskets. I don't remember if the header ports were round or oval. Guess I'm going to have to pull one side. I want to get this right the first time.

When you say pull one side you don't mean that you are going to remove the header completely? ? That shouldn't be totaly necessary as it should be able to unbolt it and leave the outer bolts on loose and wiggle the old gasket out..I think the mr gasket is that paper style that is very thick..if you got those to seal for five years you got a good set of headers..I think they do come in the two style of ports..
