well i bought a 74 auto car. Frame looked good on the bottom all of the top is shot. Gave way to much for this piece of crap can i use a 79 frame and just modify the rear for the bumper mounts and gas tank cross member found a roller for 800 or best offer body is off and looks good any hints or tips be great. Figured i could clean and redo the other frames suspension and steering and move the body over before paint. This is my wifes project car so this is the first vette for me to work with this deep in to. I have done plenty of frame offs on other cars and trucks but no vettes .
The 74 frame is a one year only. It is the same as the 69-73 with additional pieces added to the rear corners for the impact bumper. To use the later frame you will need to splice the entire section rear of the #4 body mounts.
Mike
My frame back there is great so should be easy enough the frame i found is a 79 sand blasted and primed comes with all the suspension for 800.00. Said he would even deliver for a 100.00 figured i couldn't go wrong if it would work. The only thing i have come across was the cross member for the fuel tank needed moved. Yeah i looked at mine there is no rear bumper at all back there kind of scary looking if ever got rear ended.
I got my frame today he had some frames to bring up to a powder coating shop close to my town so he brought it up to me and didn't even charge me for shipping. I don't think i could get better service then that. The frame was blasted and epoxy coated and is in great shape i have no repairs to make. other then changing the back section to work with my 74 body. So now the real fun can begin see how this weekend works out may get time to start pulling some things apart.
Hi mitUSA
Well it sounds like you did o.k.; a good frame from a decent seller!
I hope the changes you need to make go as smoothly.
Good Luck!

Alan
