Default alt bracket help

good morning...70 vette with same era engine from a camaro, don't hate. it's a small block with headers. the heads have no bolt holes in the end so i am using a two piece alt bracket purchased at a local kragen. it shares a bolt with the header and i hate the design. no a/c no power anything. i just need a bracket that works better. any help would be greatly appreciated. pictures would be great...thanks

The older heads didn't have all the bolt holes the newer ones have, f/ A/C, smog pump, etc. You'll need to go to a junk yard and get an alternator bracket from one of the older Chevy small blocks. If I'm not mistaken, I think the alternator bracket on the older ones attaches to the water pump (top)(same bolts), both the stationary one ( a triangle shape) and the adjuster (a flat plate on top and bent over in the front part w/ the long slot).
A Camaro engine, still a sbc, nothing wrong w/ that. The old ones were good ones.

Header-mount brackets are scarce in that they are all the same design. It is weak and it sucks but there are a few ways to improve it.

A double J-bar with 1/2" long solid spacers is a start and really firms things up.

Take header bracket to a welding shop and have them do this:

And you can add another brace to the alternator:

Very nice Toddalin! I've never seen the double J set-up like this.....great idea!

I'm trying to figure out the extra heim joint extension coming from the center header tubes. Can you post a closer pic of this?

This is the bracket that you need.

It works with the stock bracket in front.

I made the "L" on the alternator using an iron fence hinge, my cutoff wheel and grinder. The 1.9" spacer on the header is from March (they didn't even charge me). I don't recall who made the heim joints/threaded spacer, but these are common and if you decide to do this, I can measure the length for you (~6").

Just pitched my header mount bracket and installed this one instead about 3 days ago.

Sokoloka, that is a good setup.

For the person asking though I dont think he has holes in the Camaro head to do this type of install.

I do like photo you posted and will try out the link for one of my applications.

Sokoloka - What WP do you have, long or short? And another question, is there really a difference between a standard short WP and a stock Vette one? I have to start from scratch for WP, pulleys, brackets, etc. Any advice. For SBC IN 74'
