had the toy out for the first time yesterday, and found an oil leak on the front of the intake.. so i'm gonna replace and reseal the gaskets.. the motor is the L-46 , small block the 64 dollar question is do i use fel-pro1204,blocked heat crossover, or fel-pro1256 open heat crossover. there is also a 1205 stock.. this is what shows in the summit catalog.. i'm not sure which to use. also what valve cover gaskets to use.. thanks all :seeya
Would kinda depend on when your driving the car. If it's just a warm day car then blocking the crossover won't bother much and will probably keep the intake a little cooler. If you plan on driving it when the weather is cooler it's going to be more cold natured then usual. I put the blocked off crossover under my intake manifold and it's deffinitly more cold natured then it was but after it's warmed up it doesn't make any difference in the driveability. As far as the valve cover gaskets, Earl's makes a really good reusable rubber one, they are expensive but if your like me and pull the valve covers at least twice a year they would probably be worth the money.
I see NH on your tag line there, so that means pleanty of cold weather, leave the xover open, and get fel-pro from your local dealer, no need for mail orders...
use RTV black sensor safe for the front and rear lip, leave out the neoprene gaskets....
the heatriser will be blocked for a time if you use that style of gasket, but the exhaust will burn through the gasket anyway....
only way to permanently block a heat riser is to pout plaster of paris into the passageway....let it cure, that will block it permanently....
Re: intake gaskets, open or closed....... (mrvette)
We used to make a ball of aluminum foil and hammer it into the manifold to act as a block. Gene, being the young guy that he is, doesn't remember those days. Or, was it the beer induced memory loss.
