Default Interior light problem

Am trying to figure out how to get the fuse box pulled back from the firewall on a 1980. Have got 2 screws out but still will not move. I think I have a short back there as the courtesy light circuit blows 30 amp fuses almost as fast as I put them in. Have been using a meter and have worked my way back to the fusebox.
any help with this problem would be appreciated
Thx

I think the 80's had the delay and if so, it may be the timer circuit not the wiring. On the 81's it's a small orange box behind the glove box. Pull the glove box, it should be on the right side. Have you tried unplugging that and seeing if it still pops fuses? If it is the timer, you jump two of the wires and the lights work simply on and off without the delay feature. If you need to know which wires, I can look at mine tomorrow and post a pic.

Two whites.

I would look a little more. It would be very unusual for the wires behind the fuse box to be shorted. Not impossible, but unlikely.

Look for a bolt under the hood where the engine and forward lamp harnesses snap together and plug into the firewall.

Hi,

I have a 70 but might be the same.

First remove the hex head bolt from the center of the engine and headlight plug at the firewall from the engine side. This bolt holds the two plugs to the fuse box. There is probably some sealant around the plugs which should be removed. Now work both plugs loose at the same time until they are free. The plugs will slide apart now. There is a half round pin at the top part that keeps the two plugs together. Sort of like a snap. You'll see the slide and the detent for the pin once you pull the two plugs from the firewall. You may get to it from the side vent. My bolt head is a 3/8 inch.

Good luck
