I am just throwin' this out there. I have a 75 coupe with a crate 350/300 and a four speed. It has a super T-10 2.64 first gear with a 3:08? rear. The T-10 in the car is popping out of second which means rebuild time. I picked up a Muncie M-20 wide ratio from a 74 cheap and I am wondering what I should do. Should I pull the T-10 and rebuild it or rebuild the M-20 and put that in the car. Will my brand new Hurst shifter work with the M-20. Opinions are what I am looking for and don't worry about hurting my feelings. Thanks!

Your first gear will be about 5% taller, but I'd go with the Muncie if you feel you have enough reserve bottom-end torque to make up for it. Nothing against the BW, but IMOE I just like Muncies better. The shifter should work with either transmission. Of course, replacing a 3.08:1 with a 3.55:1 FDR would wake that thing up a bit more.

You may be 'popping out of gear' because the linkage arms, bushings, and/or the shift mechanism in the shifter is worn/damaged. There may be no problem with the tranny at all. Evaluate this before you dive into the "money pit".
The linkage is adjusted properly, but thanks for the thoughts. I can rebuild either of them myself so the money pit thing should be easier to avoid. The motor has 385 ft.lbs. according to the GM spec sheet. anyone else want to weigh in?
Yes, the BW's will pop out of gear if they're getting worn. I recently had my S-T10 rebuilt and used torque-lock syncros, now no problem popping out of any gear. More importantly, check the condition of the gears before you decide about rebuilding. Synchros are relatively cheap but if you have to start buying replacement gears they are expensive.
Keep the ST10 and rebuild it. Better 1st gear ratio and handles more power then the M20/M21. Not to mention you already have a new shifter. If you think you may want overdrive in the future, now is the time to upgrade.
