Default Q Jet Question

I'm wondering what the difference is between Q Jets for an automatic or a manual transmission other than the odd & even numbers. Is there a reason I can't use an even number carb on my 4 spd car ?

difference should just be the numbers. You can decode the numbers and come up with the exact car the carb was originally put on. etc. olds 455 m/t

Itll still work on your, just have to tune it... manual and automatic cars have a different tune on the carbs... but you have to adjust em no matter what, every motor is different

the difference is in arm off the throttle shaft that changes to accomodate kick down cables....not so relevant when going from an auto to a stick, however the other way around will not work unless you modify it

Carbs for automatic transmission vehicles often have a 'dashpot' for dampening the throttle closure...to minimize deceleration spikes. I think a lot of the Q-Jets [on GM cars] used them, as well. There also might be some incidental linkage differences to account for TV cables, etc. that the transmission might require. Internally, I don't know that there is any difference.

didnt the vacuum modualtor for the trans come off the carb to?

The vacuum line for the vacuum modulator came from the vacuum distribution block on the intake manifold. (behind the carb on SB models, anyway).
