help with wiring
GENE
I used to own a 1970 Ford Van Econoline 300, and the wiring was fried in it. I completely rewired the entire van. I didn't bother messing with identifying the old harness cause most of the wires were black, and half were all spliced up anyway, so I just yanked the whole thing out and designed a new wiring system. I think it was much easier than trying to match up harnesses; plus, I was able to hide many of the wires that previously were packed into that ugly harness. I also was able to streamline the wiring so there weren't so many junctions (the original harness was designed to use minimal amount of wire thus many junctions where short segments would tie into a main feed).
Everything is pretty simple...mostly lights which have one wire running from the bulb to a switch, than a wire to ground. For the instruments you have to figure out which terminal that they go to and then run a wire to the sensor...this is best done before removing the old harness. If your alarm system isn't working then it will be a good time to clean out the excess electrical mess, and optionally install a new system.
