I don't have a picture of my OEM type 3/4 inch rear sway bar but the picture above is the link for an aftermarket rear sway bar end link with endlinks like the front sway bar. The aftermarket endlinks that are like the front restrict the movement of the IRS suspension more than the OEM type which is why I believe GM did not use this design on rear bars that came from the factory. Just an FYI.

Hi S 76,
Here's a couple pictures of a stock 7/16" swaybar with stock linkage and bushings.
Regards,
Alan

Alan,

That is it right on the money! I replaced my original 7/16 rear bar with an OEM type (end links above) 3/4 inch rear bar, not the aftermarket endlinks shown in the first picture.

Thanks for the pics.
I was trying to see about mounting a sway bar on my 76 since it doesnt have one. Is there a kit that supplies all the parts to do the
install ? Should I go with a stock 7/16 of beef up to a 3/4 ? I plan on dropping a 454 under the hood also.

thanks,

The BB's had a standard 7/16 rear OEM bar as well as the later C3's SB's with the gymkhana (sport) suspension. Many of the vendors have everything you need to add an OEM bar but my 3/4 inch rear OEM bar is no longer available from Midamerica where I bought it but you can look around. Maybe someone has a used one or someone else makes it. Call midamerica and ask. Otherwise you would have to go with a non factory endlink setup on the rear bar. Hope that helps!

Default Rear bar

Now that you tell us about the 454. Use a 1.25" front and NO rear bar.

Hi s76,
Various venders sell all the linkage, mounting, and bushing parts, but, I don't think the 7/16" bars are being reproduced. Some vendors have used bars.

Alan

Sorry! I can't remember if my OEM bar was 7/16 or 9/16 but my OEM bar may have been 9/16 as well on my 78 L-82 Gymkhana. Not sure- I could go measure it if someone else does not know. Does anyone know if the BB's had a rear 9/16 bar and the SB had a 7/16th?

Hi jb,
I believe 70-72 bb cars, and cars with the optional F-41 suspension had 9/16" bars.
I believe the 7/16" bars came in later years.
Perhaps someone can clarify.
Regards,
Alan

So the kit will come with the mounts for the bar to the crossmember the the links to the rear.

thanks, I will shop around. I plan on beefing the front bar, but would like to tighten up the rear also. And since its an option, I would like to try it out.
