Well, after admiring my restored rolling chassis for waaaay to long, I have decided its time to get back to it. I wholeheartedly recommend that anyone who is contemplating a full restoration of this scope, not to attempt it unless you have a spot to leave it and be able to come back to it in the right frame of mind. So to my question. I bought this car in pieces, a literal basket case, missing many essentials and nothing, such as shimming or hinge positioning etc. documented at disassembly. I have the body, which is completely stripped of components, setting on a dolly. I am going to have to remove the front clip and firewall in order to correctly effect a rot through repair on the passenger side corner, near the windshield pillar, but down behind the firewall. I seem to recall reading in a thread, that it is best to set the body onto the frame, correctly shim it at all points, attach and align the doors, and when all that is done and good spacing acheived, then pull the front clip. Is all this necessary, or can I just start the clip removal right on the dolly and place the tub back on the frame after I make the repair, and when that is shimmed continue to hang the clip. I REALLY need guidance on this, as I want to do it correctly the first time around. All info and article or post references are appreciated.
Hi WW,
If I were in Mass. I'd first call, and then pay a visit to Stan at 2nd Generation Restorations.
He certainly knows Corvette body work, and judging from his help on this forum I'd think he'd give you some sequence advice if you ask nicely.
Regards,
Alan
