Default Battery seal really needed?

I am reassembling my new rear compartment assy and was wondering if the battery seal was really necessary. I bought this one from Eclkers and it did not come with the seal.

I know in '76 batteries were vented and would outgas.

I think modern batteries like mine are not vented.

So..is there really a need for the battery seal on the compartment assy?

if it's a sealed battey you don't need to put a seal on. i put a seal on to cut down on noise. it did work.

Are you intending to have the car judged? Judges will look for the seal.

No judging, just building a fun vette.

I currently do not have one on any of mine. I was thinking about putting it on for appearance reasons, but that is all. Not for judging, or show. But because the AIM manual shows it was supposed to be there.

Hi jcl,
If you don't use the seal I believe you'll need to put a couple of rubber bumpers (like on the other doors) on the frame to keep the door from rattling, and to have it fit level with the rear compartment floor.
Regards,
Alan

Why not? Costs less than $10.
