Default Brodix IK 180!

Installed a new set of Brodix IK180 heads. What a difference over stock. I should have made this change a long time ago.....

PS> The install was a lot easier than I expected.

Congrats on the new heads

I'll be putting a pair of Patriot Freedom 185 heads in my '70 Z28 next week, I hope I'll feel a good difference from the old bone stock 350 that came with the car when I bought it (of course, it wasn't the original engine for the car).

what were you using before the IK 180s?, if they were the stock ones, then there must be something wrong, the Brodix heads will give you more compression and will flow MUCH better than the orignals.

I went with the 200s while back with my 383 build.....no complaints here...went with nice cam and rpm intake...night and day difference. Had to go buy a new stall to match the new power range.

Which RPM intake did you use?

Interesting.........I had IK200's and the intake would not seal against them. I sent them back for the 180's which I like very much.

Thanks for the reply.

TG, what intake were you trying to use with the IK200s, they have big intake runners and require a manifold with similar size runners.

where would it not seal at? I had a little issue with the intake sealing at the rear by the distributer. I don't like doing it but a little extra rtv while installing (not enough to squeeze back into the engine) then a little extra along the back edge after install. Let sit over night to dry and it was good to go!

Other than that, no issues at all with the perf. rpm intake. on the ik200's.

Same here with the IK200, Performer RPM QJet manifold and Felpro 1206 intake gasket . . . no leaks.

Finally found the receipts from the archives:

I bought the IK200 heads and 1206 gasket from Summit and at the time had the GM aluminium intake that came on the ZZ4. I was told it was actually a Performer and probably made by Edelbrock for GM but I can't proove that.
When I set the intake and gaskets on the heads I could see a small gap right past the intake manifold runner and into the gasket opening. That's why I was really suprised to hear you guys are using the Performer intake with the 200's and they fit fine.

I sent them back for 180's and used a 1204 gasket and everything fit fine. I did change the intake to a Weiand 8004 but I don't think that was until later on.

For the 200's Brodix recommends a 1206 which is 1.34 x 2.21; for the 180's they say to use a 1204 which is 1.23 x 1.99. So the openings in the 1206 are larger to accomodate the larger intake runners.

Doesn't EDL say to use the 1204 with the Performer? I'm puzzled.

I did have to gasket match the intake. Here is a pic of the 1206 on the intake. It was perfect fit on the head side. Don't know how this compares to your fit.

That makes sense based on the gasket dimensions on the 1206 vs the 1204 and also the fact that the 1206 is dimensionally the same as the 200's, but I never got that far. I could see past the intake in the area where I put the arrow down into the gasket opening. Only thing I can think of now is maybe the GM intake has less meat along the edge than the intake you have.
I've made some comments to people too that the Performer won't fit the 200's based on my experience; that's obviously not true after seeing yours.

Thanks for the info
