In my 68 I have one of the MSD billet distributor with the mechanical drive. Last summer the tach stopped working and when I checked the cable it would still spin the tach manually. I had it in the garage for some other work and the mechanic confirmed its the distrbutor. I emailed MSD ignition tech support and no surprise they did not respond. I looked for MSD repair kits but did not see any.
I noticed folks like Ecklers sell repair kits for the mechanical drive on original equipment tachs. Will these components also work in the MSD distributor?
have you considered picking up the telephone and calling MSD customer service?
I'm not a big fan of waiting in a queue. I don't sit at a desk where I can work and wait for them to answer. If they have an option for email and say they will respond within two days... They should just do that.
Some people prefer talking on the phone. I'm not one of them.

That happened with my msd tach drive. Like you, I could unfasten the cable from the Dist. and Spin the tach by hand. It ended up being the little Piece that goes into dist. Hole before fastening the cable back up. Research a little about how that drive engages with the Tach via the cable. You should See that little piece and Know what to look for.
If thats what it is then Yes Kits have them , MSD may have the piece in their rebuild Kit. Im not a fan of Ecklers but they would have That piece in a kit. Also if theres a c3 corvette dealer around, that has a service Bay, they would have the piece by itself laying around the shop.
