Default MSD 8571 distributor fit under shield

Does the MSD 8571 (or 8572 with advance removed) distributor fit under the stock ignition shielding box? I've seen this asked before, but can't find a direct answer. I know it will need a separate box, but can hide that under dash, but want to keep shield. Thanks.

I have one under the shield for my '70 big block and it fits, a little tight but no problems. The coil to distributor wire needs to be cut to exact size otherwise it can bulge upwards and inhibit the shield cap being screwed back into place. Box is hidden under the passenger fender so it gets some airflow via the gills and has the added bonus of being accessible to swap out rev limiter 'chip'.

Thanks. Did you use the cap that came with it and MSD wires? I was thinking about a socket type cap and reproduction braided wires, not sure what is best.

If you're using this setup you have to use at least 8.5mm wires (like the MSD ones). I bought the kit to let me cut my own lengths. Don't use the repro braided ones as they don't deal with the higher voltages as well. you also can't use the caps which are secured at the top with the MSD plate that attaches to the 8572 - not enough height, but this is not an issue at all.

Like I said, BB car may be different to SB - I don't know (but I can't imagine that different as they all in general had the same distributor). Someone else may comment.
