Default Kumhos or Michelins ?

So I went with the V60 Cobra styel wheels, just had to be a bit different

So, now tires..

It's down the the Kumho Ecsta XS

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

or the Michellin Pilot Sport PS2

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

Ive run the PS2 on a modded 911 Turbo AWD pushing 550ish HP and they were in a word, amazing.

BUT I like the look of the Kumhos better and wonder if they might not offer a bit more 'stick" at the sacrifice of tread life.

Tread life and cost are not a big concern, it's more about performance and at least decent wet weather holding, and an aggressive "track look" is a plus, hence the nod to the Kumhos

Has any body run the Kumhos and can give some first hand experience?

Anybody else love the PS2, or hate em?

Any other tires in the size range that mebbe I missed?
335/35/17 back 255/45/17 front

As always, feedback is appreciated

The XS is a MUCH stickier tire. If you care about dry cornering prowess, it's no contest.

If you are more interested in an "all around" tire, the PS2 is better. It will handle wet better. It will last longer, but is also significantly more expensive.

XS will smoke the Michelin PS tire in the dry. If your running hard in wet conditions that is another story.

How do you drive? In the rain? I heard Kuhmos weren't good with wet traction. You probably don't so I'd go with them for a stickier tire.

I go through both front and rear tires. IMO out of the box performance is a nill factor. they might be great. But get some heat cycles and age and they turn to grease. You are better off just buying high traction tires and replacing them periodically. I only buy 180 - 220 tread ware and then replace them. I've had the Michelin PS and goodyear F1's KDW's, dunlaps Let them age and on year two and still half tread and I looped my vette. I could be off the gas going around a turn and the rear end would come around. It is kind of fun for tuning up your driving skills.

I was out at the track running big slicks and I put my street tires back on even with z rated AA-A 180 new and driving comparatively nice looped my Vette on the long on ramp into a 70 mph freeway. You just have to know your tires limitations

My rears are 335 and front 275 Just run Kumho's and replace them

While I have no personal experience (gkull does) the serious pro-touring guys run the Kumhos.

The PS2s are great tires but they are pricey. They would probably be the better choise on a high performance everyday driver. From what you said I think the Kumhos will more that meet your expectations.

Yeah, I scoured the net last night looking for the Kumhos but it seems they are out of stock about everywhere, I may have to go with the PS2s just on availability

ANybody got a line on a pair for 335/35/17 Kumho XS's?

I was surprized that the tire rack was out of the Kumhos.

They have such big rain grooves. I wish that they were smaller for more rubber on the road. tire rack does have the 315/35/17 only 1/2 inch less in diameter.

You don't want to get caught in the rain with Kumhos. They're terrible in the wet and when cold. I have them on my Z06. When they're warmed up and in the dry, they're great.

The 335/35-17s are on backorder. I think you'll be hard pressed to find a set right now and quite possible for a while (earthquake may have an effect?). Take the 315s while they are still available. 275/40s and 315/35s are the same overall diameter and will work out fine (C4 Grand Sport sizes).

I had the Kumhos on my C5 and I really liked them. They were very sticky and had great dry traction. In the rain they were not that great, but there were a lot cheaper, and if I remember correctly, you could by two sets of them for the price of the Michelins.

I'm pretty "set" on the 335/35 size, I may go with the PS2's though as I dont want to be crippled if caught in the rain, and, well, I can get them

I am waiting on a response from Hoosier though on a tire they make in that size
