If the passenger side is open you should be able to lift it enough to move the linkage, if not the is a small rubber plug that you can reach behind the firewall in front of the driver side, search this site it's on here,Ron

there is a tool that you push through the plug ( I think ecklers do it?) but i found a piece of 12mm reinforcing rod bent into a curve did the job
Its a bit fiddly and I found that although I could activate the lever to release the hood it still would not lift
I resorted to cutting a spanner (believe 7/16" ) and driving into the end of an aluminium tent pole making a 4'.0" spanner and from the passenger side loosened the drivers side hood stop which allowed it to open Phew!!!
I have opened them going through the side "gill" just take it off and use a long pry bar , look at the cable and you will see the way to move the mechanism. Ron
