Default Engine shipping advice

I need to find a reasonable way to get a complete engine to Ontario Canada from Oklahoma

Do any of you have any advice on how to get this done at anywhere near a reasonable cost?I have a crate, but intital checking into trucking charges seems high to me.

What has it cost some of you to get your crate motors shipped to you? What companies have you used?

I`ll be doing this soon also. I`ll be hanging on to see what others have to say. I`ve seen prices that cost as much as the whole car

Mountainman are you the sender or reciever? If you are the sender, check some local moving companies in your area. I used to work for one and some of the independant contractors take cash to toss an item or two on the truck. You would have to get it the company's dock but I bet they would do it for a $100 to $200 bucks. Just hope they have someone going near the drop off point. Can't hurt to call around.

Shipping in the US from Dallas to Chicago was about $250 for a 350ci. Since you sending to Canada, maybe you should have the receiver contact a border broker for advise and see what the incoming duties and papers will run. They work with shippers all the time.

It won't be cheap... The wife works for a custom broker and to bring a frame up from louisiana it was going to be around $900 CAD I would assume an engine is fairly close to that, possibly a bit cheaper. Also Ontario is big, where the engine is going in Ontario makes a difference. If its a fairly big place like Windsor, Niagra Region or Toronto, you could probably find a mover that would do it cheap.

Thanks for the advice on the movers.Initialy looks as if as much to truck a engine as it is to ship a car!And I guess some kind of duties/fees are involved as well.Never figured that one out.
A $3.00 catalog costs a Canadian $16.00 Thats not right?

Ed, I will get it to you if you will relay it further up North! And NO ! It is a 283 two barrel not 383. You have your numbers mixed up :D

The Corvette Forum relay team He He!

Looks as if it will have to be assembled up there along with the block being purchased there and all machine work as well

I know a guy who just bought a 283 engine. the cylinders and all bearings surfaces where covered in vasoline. the pistons and rods are out of the motor and the cylinder heads need to be redone.

He has no use for it just bought it to keep it out of a steel recycler hands. He might be willing to part with it for the right amount of money. I don't think it has an intake with it. but the important stuff is there( block, crank pistons, rods, heads) It cam out of a 62-67 something or other.

Email me if want anymore info.

P. S. I am not sure if he WILL EVEN sell it but its worth a try if someone wants it.

I got a quote to ship a 454 engine from Arizone to Toronto, and the frate company said it would cost $394.16 US which right now is about $635.00 CAN. Not really that good a deal considering the entire engine cost $4750.00 CAN.
