Hey guys I recently sent my driveshaft out to be balanced. Before sending it to them, I beadblasted the entire driveshaft and purchased a new front transmission yoke. When they balanced it, they attached the front yoke and balanced the yoke and driveshaft together as one unit. My question is now that I have the driveshaft back, I was wanting to paint it, but forgot to ask the guys if removing the u-joints so I can paint the shaft will affect the balancing. I figure that as long as I mark Exactly how everything came apart and put it all back together the same way, I will be in good shape?? OR Should I just leave it alone and figure out how to paint around the u-joints without removing them?? Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!
It wont be a problem at all taking them apart and putting it back together..use a punch to make a mark and not a marker or something that can be erased..might want to use an F for front and a B for back so that doesnt get mixed up..being they were just put in they should pop apart real easy..
Spend an hour or so masking the U-joints. 2 inch wide blue painters tape works nicely. Remove the Retaining clips and mask off with a simple circle. No need to take it apart. Just take your time.
Thanks your all of your feedback guys! I had plans to work on the driveshaft today, but it was too cold in the garage to work....so I sat on the couch and pigged out on Doritos instead!! Oh well, maybe I'll work on it next weekend!
