Default Borgenson Install Question

I am installing the Borgenson box in my 79. I have the box mounted to the frame now. When the box in mounted the distance between the output shaft and the steering column is only about a inch and a quarter. I don't see enough room for the rag joint to fit in. Am I looking at this wrong or is this normal?

The steering column in your 79 is the collapsable type. You have to tap it in (Very gently, not too much) with a hammer until you have sufficient clearance . Borgeson should have supplied details of this with the kit. I am sure there are instructions on their website. Good Luck!

I have not installed one of those yet, but have read here several times that the column must be colapsed a bit to have room for the rag joint. just pry or tap the flange and the shaft will move into the column.

oops, typed too slow!

Ive colapsed the cloumn about as far as I think it will go, a couple inch's. Im pretty sure it to the limit. Not much let as a safety zone if it goes this way.
Ill be calling Borgenson in the morning. ....thanks guys

I talked with tech support this morning. The tech claims that this is normal. He said you only need about 3/4 of a inch to fit the tag joint into place. I was told when the column is loosened and adjusted they will line right up.

So tomorrow night Ill fit everything together,,,looks like thing will go together just fine!!!

I had to loosen the column on my '69 and back it out a little to get the joint in place. Remember to disconnect the battery before doing this just in case you move the starter switch.
I left the wiring attached but removed the four bolts (two firewall and two under the dash) to just pull the column toward the back of the car about two inches.
