One of my projects this weekend is to replace my leaky oil pressure sending unit
near the distributor. I could not find much on this in my manuals... but it looks like
the oil pressure gauge is mechanical and not electrical. Is this correct? So the line
coming from the sending unit is a "hose" with oil going to the gauge?
If that's the case, how does one replace the sending unit? Is the line easily
removed at the sending unit? How? Or does the line come off at the guage? :cry

Re: Help on replacing oil pressure sending unit (rollavette71)
Mine was leaking were it enters the block too. I loosened the top nut and the nut, compression fitting and hose came with it. The other part is an adapter which screws into the block. Usually what happens is heat from the block distorts the plastic tubing in the block fitting. I had extra length on my hose, so I simply cut about 2 inches off the tubing, got a new oil pressure repair kit and used the new compression fitting and bolt from the kit. I don't know how it connects to the gauge.

Hi Hank - There really is no "sending unit" per se, as the connection at the block is just an oil line to the back of the guage in the dash. There is oil going to the guage in your dash, and the line is connected the same way - with a pressure fitting. Not easy to get to - it's best if you can get the radio out of the way if you need to disconnect it or replace the hose. Dime to a dollar you find a bit of oil dripped on the top of your radio... Either way, you will find it easier to do if you remove the passenger side lower dash (easy) and get a good view of the connection from the side. Loosening the center dash section or removing it entirely isn't a bad idea. I just did this over the weekend as part of an interior clean-up. No fun! Be ready to curse a bit :cuss and get a few scrapes on your hands if they're big like mine... :)

OK, great, thanks! But then what should I replace... pressure fitting(s) plus the
line? I assume the line and fittings are standard and can be bought at any
parts store? Do you use any sealer on the fittings?
