Default Rochester Leaking

I have a Rochester on my 1976 Corvette that seems to be leaking fuel at the air mixture screws. Is this a simple fix or a big problem?

Default Simple Fix!

Could just be dirt holding the float open, could be more than that.

I just picked up one that was rebuilt. This doesn't sound good.

If it was just rebuilt, you should call the rebuilder and tell him it's leaking at the idle adjustment screws. That is NOT normal.

Alright I will bite..how screwed up a carb has to be to have fuel coming out the mixture screws??? Wish I had one laying around to play with to see!!! Oh and Pete that is a neat little rebuild link..it does miss a few things about fine adjustments and one big one about sealing the mid sections end caps so they don't leak..this carb is probably leaking somewhere else..like the famous leak at the filter or inlet fitting after a rebuild ..

I don't see how.

You sure the fuel isn't leaking elsewere? Perhaps around the inlet. Could the body of the carb be cracked?

At first it looked like the air mixture screws because they were really wet. Then I wiped everything down, went inside to think then returned to the garage. I started the car then went to watch. That is when I noticed that the screws were alright. Now just a small leak from the fuel inlet. I will check on it today and hopefully that solves the problem.

Then on to setting up the carb properly!

A little tip to tighten the fuel line..first loosen the fuel line to the carb..just a little..then tighten the big fuel filter housing..it really doesn't take much so don't go crazy here..now tighten the fuel line to the fuel filter while holding the fuel filter..don't allow the filter to move..once again don't go to crazy here since they don't have to be that tight..this works for me real easy..the tough one is getting a wrench to fit the fuel filter housing..I think its an inch and a quarter or so..so we are pulling out the big guns here..so like I said though don't go to crazy on the fuel filter housing..it only has a small plastic gasket in there and with that huge wrench it can and will get split in two if ya overtighten it..just snug is all you need.

...what he said. But, if that doesn't stop the leaking, DO NOT try to tighten it more. Your next step is to remove that line and fitting to see if the little gasket on the bowl fitting is still good...or maybe missing. Also check to see if the housing is cracked. Depending on what you find, we can advise on a proper fix for any situation.

Thanks

I will have to take it off. It is leaking fuel in other parts of the carb as well.
